Summary of Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer who is a pioneer in the modern agentic development era with a strong focus on data pipeline and analytics architecture. This role demands exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate complex architectural challenges within high-volume data environments. You will serve as the technical authority for your domain, leading the design, development, and maintenance of scalable microservices that power our core ETL and analytics platforms.
At our company, the “Senior” title signifies more than just writing code; you are an integral component of the entire technical lifecycle—from refining high-level product initiatives into executable stories to mentoring the team on best practices. Most importantly, you will leverage and champion Agentic LLM tooling (such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor) to accelerate delivery, maintain high standards, and automate engineering “toil”.
Responsibilities
- Data Pipeline & Architecture Leadership: Lead design teams for complex ETL pipelines, data models, and analytics infrastructure.
- System Maintenance: Design and develop new Microservices while managing APIs, massive datasets, and complex ETL pipelines that feed data warehouses and search indices.
- Agentic Workflow Mastery: Utilize AI-assisted coding tools to boost productivity while critically evaluating outputs to ensure they meet our rigorous standards.
- Engineering Excellence: Perform regular code reviews, discourage “big PR” mindsets, and advocate for modular, component-based architectures.
- Product Initiative Ownership: Coordinate with Product Owners and Data Analysts to refine data requirements and break down complex epics into modular stories.
- Operational Proactivity: Lead root cause analysis for production alerts and errors, specifically regarding data quality and pipeline failures.
- Mentorship: Work closely with team members to socialize standards and increase productivity through collaborative design sessions.
Requirements
- Java Expertise: 8+ years of Java experience, with a mandatory mastery of the Java ecosystem.
- Polyglot Programming: 5+ years of experience with Python.
- Data & Messaging: 5+ years working with Message Bus technologies (e.g., RabbitMQ, GCP PubSub).
- Big Data & Analytics Platforms: 5+ years of proven experience with Spark, Google BigQuery, Elasticsearch, and managed orchestration services like Dataproc or Airflow.
- Database & Modeling: 5+ years of deep experience with both Relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases, including expertise in star/snowflake schemas and data warehousing.
- AI Tooling: Proven ability to integrate Agentic LLM tools into the daily SDLC and perform “Context Engineering” to produce idiomatic, compliant code.
- Node.js Proficiency: Experience building and maintaining services within a Node.js environment.
- Frameworks & API Design: Experience with Spring Framework/Hibernate and designing GraphQL/REST APIs.
- Cloud Tools: Proficiency with Docker and containerized ecosystems such as Argo and K8s.
Location Information
This role is preferred to be located near our Denver, CO office, with hybrid work from home flexibility.
Our HQ is in Denver, Colorado. Our fun, downtown location is open for those who wish to work in the office, set visitor meetings, and collaborate with coworkers in person. Office perks include snacks for all (healthy options and vegan options available), beverages, and an open floor plan where team members can book a desk any time.
Team members must live and work in the United States* (*territories excluded), and have access to reliable, high-speed internet.
Compensation
Salary Range: $135,000.00 – $165,000.00 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
