    People are skimming through their emails, especially when checking their inboxes on mobile devices. Lengthy subject lines can deter attention, and crucial words may get cut off on smaller screens. Given the increasing prevalence of mobile use, limiting your subject line to 4-7 words is wise to avoid cutoffs. 

  • Incorporate a solid call to action (CTA).

    Consider the primary objective of your email. Do you want the reader to purchase, register for an event, or engage with your brand in a specific way? Incorporate action-oriented phrases like “Shop Now,” “Register Now,” or “Limited Time Offer” to create a sense of urgency and prompt immediate action. 

  • Showcase the offer.

    If your email promotes a sale, special deal, or exclusive offer, ensure the offer is prominently featured in the subject line. For example: 

      1. Exclusive 24-Hour Sale!
      2. Today Only: 20% off Everything!
  • Create a personalized approach.

    Whenever possible, personalize your emails to create a sense of exclusivity. If you have the recipient’s name in your CRM database, use it in the subject line. If not, employ other tactics like including the recipient’s location or using words like “You” or “exclusive” to tailor the email to the individual. 

  • Embrace emojis.

    Emojis can add a touch of expressiveness to your subject line, helping your email stand out in a crowded inbox. However, exercise discretion, as not all emails are suited for emojis, and overusing them can diminish their impact. According to Litmus, an emoji in an email subject line can increase click-through rates (CTR) by 28%. 

5 Ways to Craft Engaging Email Content 

Once you’ve successfully captured your audience’s attention with a compelling subject line, the content of your email must live up to the promise. Your email should be engaging, informative, and, if relevant, include accessible and straightforward coupon codes or calls to action. 

  • Engage and inform. Grab your audience’s attention from the beginning by creating a compelling opening that resonates with their needs or interests. Whether introducing a new product, promoting an event, or sharing industry insights, make your content engaging and informative. Use easy-to-understand language, and structure your email for readability with clear headings, bullet points, and visuals when appropriate.
  • Create clear CTAs. Your email’s call to action (CTA) should be crystal clear. Whether you want your audience to purchase, register for an event, or try a new product offering, use persuasive language that guides them to make that desired action. Effective CTAs include phrases like “Shop Now,” “Learn More,” or “Get Started Today.” Bonus: Position your CTAs strategically within the email, making them easily accessible.
  • Optimize your email. According to HubSpot, most email views come from mobile devices (41%), followed by desktops (39%). This makes optimizing your email for various devices and screen sizes essential. Test your email on desktop and mobile platforms to guarantee that it displays correctly and is easy to navigate, regardless of your recipient’s device. 
  • Visual appeal. Images and videos can enhance the visual appeal of your email and convey your message more effectively. However, use these visuals sparingly and purposefully to avoid overwhelming your audience. Ensure your email is well-balanced with a mix of text and visuals that complement each other.
  • A/B Testing. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different elements of your email content to see what resonates best with your audience. A/B testing can help determine which subject lines, content, visuals, and CTAs perform most effectively.
